Below are brief descriptions of the three assessments you will complete for the IB. (You will also have other assessments, but these are the only ones that the IB will consider for your IB grade).
The first two are External Assessments.
1. Film Theory and History: Independent Study (Word Document). This includes a rationale, script and annotated list of sources for a documentary production of 12–15 pages. The documentary should be aimed at high school students, focus on one aspect of film theory or history and use a minimum of 4 films from more than one country. Every student's Independent Study project must be accompanied by form 6/FISCS and be received by IB Cardiff by April 30.
2. Textual Analysis: Oral presentation (audio file). You will prepare a 15 minute presentation analyzing a 5 minute extract from a given list of films. You are allowed 4 weeks to pick the film, choose the scene and prepare the presentation, which will be recorded as an audio file onto a CD. Each student will have their own CD, and the CD must be playable from a standard CD player. The IB will announce in the November issue of the DP Coordinator Notes what films students may use. Every student's completed CD must be accompanied by form 6/FPCS and be received by the IB no later than April 30.
The third is an Internal Assessment.
3) Film Production: Production Portfolio (DVD and Word Documents). You will complete a 6 to 7 minute film, including titles, a 40 to 60 second trailer for your film, a rationale for the film of less than 100 words, a rationale for the trailer of less than 100 words, and a 1750 word or less document charting the stages of development in one of the five defined production roles: Director, Scriptwriter, Editor, Cinematographer and Sound Designer. The Production Portfolio is assessed by the teacher, using the appropriate rubric. The score, a number out of 50, is uploaded to IBIS no later than April 10. Each student turns in form 6/FPPHCS (High Level) or 6/FPPSCS (Standard Level). The student film must be recorded to a DVD disc. Each DVD must be clearly labeled with the student's name, candidate number, subject level and component of the examination, session and year of the exam. The teacher uploads the Internal Assessment and Predicted Grades to IBIS no later than April 10. The IB website will ask for some student's Production Portfolio to be send to IB. The Production Portfolios and the accompanying forms, must arrive at IB no later than April 20. They are assessed on the basis of 5 criteria: A) Planning and Research, B) Reflection and Evaluation, C) Professional and Technical Skills, D) Effective use of Film Language and E) Originality and Creativity.
