Dear Parents and Students, In August of 2012 the Pan American School of Bahia became an International Baccalaureate World School. The IB Diploma Program is an exciting educational opportunity for our students and we are proud to offer it.
This website has access to important IB publications, teacher websites, course descriptions, assignments, blogs and other information.
The International Baccalaureate Organization was created over 40 years ago in Geneva to establish continuity of educational excellence in international schools. The IB program is based on a common university preparatory curriculum and external examinations. Successful candidates earn the IB diploma, recognized world wide as the gold standard of education and accepted by universities all over the world.
Being an IB World School puts us in a prestigious community of over 3,000 schools in 141 countries. The IB program balances the opportunity of academic specialization with the ideals of an eclectic liberal arts education. The program is flexible to reflect the interests and needs of individual students while the emphasis on concurrency of learning ensures interdisciplinary connections that enrich the educational experience. Moreover, the community service and extracurricular activities required by the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) component help students integrate their intellectual and emotional development while increasing their global awareness.
The Pan American School and the International Baccalaureate Organization share crucial core values, making the Diploma program an ideal fit for our school. Our mission statement commits us to inspire students to become life-long learners and responsible world citizens. The IB Diploma program is predicated on the same values.
The IB Diploma program focuses on high school juniors and seniors. During these two years IB Diploma Candidates concentrate on six areas: a student's native language, a second language, social studies, experimental science, mathematics and either the arts, or another language.
Additional components include the Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay and CAS.
This diagram, prepared by the IBO, illustrates how the components fit together:
At the center of the IB Hexagon is the Learner Profile, composed of ten dispositional skills.
